Last Week

Last week was a bit of a whirlwind not only were our schedules crazy but I found it to be an emotional roller coaster as well.

We realized Monday that the kids passports were expired. Bad news, since they passed a new law in the US that you can not cross the boarder without one. Even worse news considering that the nearest passport office is in Vancouver and even if we managed to get there the office is so busy you may not even get help.

I ran around Monday morning having pictures taken and getting paperwork together. On Tues. Paul took all the kids stuff to the immigration office here in the Loops, they can check out your paperwork before you make to Vancouver that way you know have everything you need. Q's picture was not accepted and I had to run around and have a new taken and signed.

Paul drove to Vancouver on Wed. night after he played hockey. He got to the passport office and slept in the truck for an hour and got in the line up at 5:30 in the morning. He told me there were about 30 people in front of him already. The news is good, all the running around paid off and we have all the passport stuff in and the passports will be ready to pick up in a week, when Paul had trip to Vancouver planned anyway.

Harv, Paul's grandfather has taken a turn for the worse. He has been surviving terminal lung cancer for over 2 years. He had a blockage in his digestive tract over the holidays and they removed it surgically. The blockage was cancer, of course. The surgery seemed to be more than he could handle and he is wasting away now. We are all having a little trouble dealing with this, especially Sebass.

On the up side I successfully pulled off a surprise toga party for Paul's birthday on Saturday night. That was a bit nerve wracking. The kids knew about by Friday and I was worried they would tell Paul before Saturday night. They did a great job and kept it under wraps. I will post some pictures to make you laugh on Tuesday.

I'm glad the Canadian passport service is so quick. Can you get them American passports, those last 10 years?

In Canada a kids passport is good for 2 years, makes sense, kids change so quickly. An adult passport is only good for 5.

We have been checking into applying for US passports for the kids, it is very expensive and I need to gather a ton of information including strange stuff like my entire life worth of school records. Big headache that we need to tackle before they make it even harder!
