Happy Birthday

My baby turned 3. Is the love of motorcycles genetic?

Here is PJ in her 'favorite' hat. She loves it. Bonnie brought it to her from England

PJ in the hat I just knitted for her. Got gauge?

Bass in the hat. It will fit PJ after it is felted. I hope!

Paint

It has taken far to long for me to post these. Here is the bench seat:

My funky flower boxes and the still unpainted mantel:

I think this picture and the bench show the paint color the best:

How does it stay so clean? The kids are young enough to like unloading the dishwasher. I will enjoy this stage as long as I can.

Fall

The leaves are changing, there is a cold wind blowing and it smells like Fall. Fall is one of my favorite seasons, but I am not ready for it. Just a few more weeks of sunshine to warm me up and carry me through the winter would nice.

You have seen many pictures of this beautiful pine tree here on the blog. Sadly the Pine Beetle is taking it's toll on the forests of British Columbia, it seems that this tree is yet another victim.

I noticed about a month ago that my favorite tree was starting to get a bit brown. I kept thinking I need to take a picture and blog about it. Today I looked out my window and saw that my tree is almost completely gone.

When I run some of my trail runs I am shocked by the amount of trees that are suffering due to the pine beetle. We need 2 weeks of below -40C to kill the beetle. Lets hope for a cold, cold winter here in the Loops.

I believe that there are areas in the US that are dealing with the pine beetle as well, I think Colorado is having some trouble with and I am sure the problem will work its way down into Washington soon if it has not already.

For the Love of Random

The sun did not shine.
It was too wet to play.
So we sat in the house
All that cold, cold, wet day.

I sat there with Sally.
We sat there, we two.
And I said, "How I wish
We had something to do!"

Too wet to go out
And too cold to play ball.
So we sat in the house.
We did nothing at all.

So all we could do was to
Sit!
Sit!
Sit!
Sit!
And we did not like it.
Not one little bit.
by Dr. Seuss

This is what PJ and the Bass man built on our cold, cold wet day:

Our cold wet day brought us this:

The other half:

And: can you see the double rainbow?

And Canada Post brought us this:

It is a RAOK from Aunt Andi. I have not even had the pleasure of meeting Aunt Andi and she send us some first aide for the skin. I have trouble with dry skin and finding body and face creams that I can use without irritation. Sadly I seemed to have passed this on to my kids.

Seabass is allergic to most sunscreens (he gets hives!) PJ is so dry she scabs up and Q's face gets a ruddy rash with any change in weather, his poor cheeks are dry, red and sore. If I put cream on it he tells me it burns and wants it washed off.

I took this picture because it was packaged so well. The ladies at the post office wanted to keep it, it smelled clean and good! It looks like a box full snow:

911 for the skin. I used Andi's unscented body lotion (one mom gave me to try while I was in CA) on the kids after their swim lessons this summer. Their skin loved it, no summer rashes and it helped PJ with her dry dry skin problems. I asked mom for Andi's email so I could place an order with her.

Mom did one better than pass on the email, she told Andi the scoop and the next thing I know all this arrives: The kids are all bathed and lotioned up in Andi's organic goodness and I expect everyone will be less itchy and silky smooth in no time. Thank you Andi!

Q opened every bottle and had a smell. I will quote him for Andi,
"Mommy, this smells like heaven."
(He got the line from Layne she said it to Seabass last summer and he has never forgotten it)

Andi, Q says Thank you as well!

Anything is Possible

I have to say I am a bit disappointed in the outcome of this one. I thought Lukas was one of the worst singers and when he sings I just can't get past his eyebrows. They do a wild dance that is a show unto its own.

I do think it is cool that he went from frying up chicken wings at Hooters to the lead the singer of Supernova. It makes you realize that ANYTHING is possible.

I have a confession to make. I am a survivor fan. In the world of reality TV this is the original and they continue to suck me in with good twists and human drama. It entertains me. What entertains me even more is this photo:

Go ahead and try it, go to google images and google Jeff Probst, this is the first photo that comes up (no pun intended)

Grumpy Girl

Hehe, I think it is a bit ironic that I finally post again and I am grumpy. I am not sure why I am feeling so grumpy but for some reason I just feel a bit overwhelmed lately. I have no right to feel so overwhelmed, know a lot of people who have more on their plate than I do and seem to handle it better than I can. I think sometimes I just let life get the best of me for a few days and then I start to feel better.

I had to rip back a large portion of sock yesterday. I finished the heel flap before I realized I had the cuff on the sock inside out and I had to rip back the entire thing and start over.

There is a stench coming from downstairs that will make your eyes water. The neighbors male cat and Shmoo are having a territory war and he got in the house and peed in my work out room. Paul left stinky hockey gear in the laundry room downstairs and the two odors together just downright bring tears to your eyes. I have heard that vinegar will remove the odor of cat pee (male cats stink much worse than girl cats) Yum stinky hockey gear, cat pee and pickles.

I washed the hockey gear with baking soda and sprinkled baking soda on the vinegar on the carpet and the smell just might be clearing now, either that or my nose has grown immune to the stink.

The winds have blown the smoke out of the Loops, the winds are coming from the North now and that means it is has gotten cold it is 40C and raining.

I have decided on a cure for my crabbiness. I am drinking a cup of hot peppermint tea, eating milk chocolate toffee Macadamia nuts, I will feed the kids peanut butter until their mouths are glued shut for quiet time, I am reviewing some Jamaican sunshine pictures, and now I am going to go hide under my covers in fetal position until the sun comes back out or until Supernova has decided on a front man or woman.

If all that doesn't work there is always Gin.

See, now were smiling!

A Post!!!

We took the kids to the driving range on Monday afternoon. Q and Seabass did very well. I was surprised by their patience and the amount of time they spent trying to wack the golf balls. PJ would only try twice. She did find a way to keep herself amused, she helped Daddy practice by putting his golf balls on the tee for him. She would tee one up and stand back behind the yellow line and when he said it was okay she would run up and tee up another one for him. It was pretty funny.

Seabass has a better swing than I do. Take a look at the background in these photos, see how yucky the air looks? More on that in just a minute.

Q had his first day of pre-school on Tuesday and Seabass his first day of kindergarten. This week was a bit of a pain in the bum, but it will get better soon. The kids do a gradual start program where the teachers divide the class in two and half the class goes for the first hour of class and the other half goes for only the second hour of class. My kids had school from 10:00 to 11:00 the past three days.

Almost more trouble than it is worth to get them all ready, drive them to school and then turn right around and pick them up. The good news is they went from 8:30 to 11:00 today and from here on out. What will I do with myself?!?

Shannon has been posting so many pretty flowers that I thought I would join the show with some of my own:

The sweet peas are the neighbors, but they pour over our fence and smell wonderful. Notice the yucky sky in the back ground?

A kid looking for ripe tomatoes:

Here are some yucky sky pictures. There is a large fire in Washington and all the smoke is blowing our way. This is the view out the front window. As you can see we are socked in with the smoke. I am spoiled with good air here in BC and it sounds a bit silly but we are suffering a bit with all the smoke.

It has been like this all week, in fact it has gotten progressively worse. I can't wear my contacts the past day or two due to the smoke and the kids are sick because of it. They are coughing and have itchy sore eyes and runny noses.

There is good news the winds are supposed to shift and come from the North rather than the South. This might cool us down a bit and even bring some rain. Maybe even wash all that crap out of the air.

Vegas Pictures

Judy flew home today. It was a quick trip and it is always fun to have her. I wish this trip had been a little easier on her, she spent it dealing with her mom's health issues and she did not get anytime to really go out and enjoy herself.

The kids start school in two more sleeps. They have a gradual start, they only go for an hour a day for the first three days and then they go the entire morning on Friday. Next week we should relax into our regular schedule and things just might ease up a bit around here. I am looking forward to it.

We have had a great summer and this mom is ready for school to start!

Here are some Vegas photos for you. Paul did a great job and took lots of pictures. This first one is of the Peanut having a good time by the pool. I remember filling buckets of water and sitting in them when I was a kid. This picture made me smile!

I couldn't help but post this one, I have no idea where Paul took it, but nice cactus Seabass!

I have not taken any pictures of the kitchen and dining room yet, I just got these downloaded and recharged the camera. I will get there soon, I promise!
